Cannon Wins Best of Show, Loses Starving Artist Credentials

In August of 2008, Artist Terry Cannon made his annual pilgrimage to the nationally renowned Port Clinton Art Festival where he sold 17 paintings, 3 collages and won best of show.

Ranked 3rd in the U.S., The Port Clinton Art Festival is organized by Amdur Productions, an Illinois based arts festival production company whose mission is to bring art and artists to the public.  “The 25th Annual Port Clinton Art Festival, ranked the #3 festival in the country is a juried and judges fine art and fine craft festival featuring 260 adult artists and a youth division showcasing the emerging creativity of area artists,” explained Amy Amdur, director of Amdur Productions.

“Terry's work was selected based upon the strong body of wok he had, unique point of view, and exceptional execution,” Ms. Amdur explained.  Pieces included … which was bought by….  “…,” explains Mr/Mrs….

“It was pretty.  It caught our eye and was perfect for our dining room.  For years we had been looking for a piece for that spot,” explains Susan Mandell, a Highland Park resident who bought one of Cannon’s flower paintings at the festival.

For Cannon, the Port Clinton Art Festival in one of two major festivals he attends.  In 2001, it was his first big art festival.  And he has gone back every year since.

“For the 300,000 people that attend, it is a cultural thing.  People there are responsive to art.  They come back for more, and every year I have been able to build relationships and grow comfortable introducing new work.”

Among the pieces Cannon sold were four collages.  It was the first time he presented his newer, fresher, larger and cleverly uninhibited collages?

“For me, paintings fund my collage addiction,” Cannon explains.
